About the Book
On our last visit to Disneyland, we started the day off as we always do – riding my favorite, Big Thunder Mountain. My kids love this ride too but I noticed that my son was covering his ears to block out the loud sound effects. It occurred to me that I should have brought along his headphones to help him accommodate the auditory overload.
Afterwards, I wondered how many parents struggled with their neurodivergent kids at the park or avoided going altogether over concern of how their autistic child might react to everything. And that’s a shame because it’s such an amazing place to go as a family.
So I decided to use my experience as a frequent Disneyland Resort visitor and a parent of two autistic children to help others planning their Disney trip with neurodivergent kids.
I am not a medical expert or a know-every-single-thing-about-Disneyland person – I just love the parks and going there with my kids. Everything in this guide is either learned from our experiences or anticipating the experiences of others on the spectrum.
I just want everyone to feel the same magic we do when we go.
This guide’s focus is autistic children but the information inside can be helpful for numerous other developmental disabilities so I encourage you to share the shopping link with anyone you know who is considering visiting the parks with a special needs child.
